Vineyard Community Church (VCC) is a relatively new church in Daventry trying to engage with our culture and find fresh ways to re-connect it with Church. When we started VCC, one of our goals was to discover what “real Church Community” is, beyond just attending Church services. Many of the answers came when we started serving those who live around us – our neighbours, friends & colleagues. Where do we come from? Vineyard Community Church, Daventry is part of fast-growing family of churches called Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland. There are around 100 Vineyards in the UK and over 1500 worldwide. The Vineyard in Daventry is led by Rob & Ange Gee. Both have lived in Daventry for many years – in fact, Rob was born here! They were both members of the Vineyard Network Church in Birmingham when, in February of 2000, they joined a small team of 8 to 10 people who were sent out to start a new Vineyard in Daventry which, at that time, was led by Rob’s brother, Steve and his wife Tammy. Rob & Ange took over leading VCC in September of 2003 What can I expect if I visit? After we have supped our coffee (or tea) and indulged in a sticky doughnut or cake, we start our meetings with a time of worship. Our worship is contemporary in style and is usually led by a band – guitars, bass and drums. With the words to the songs being projected on the screen you are welcome to sing along or simply sit back and listen. After worship, the kids are escorted out to “Junior Church” while the grown-ups listen to a 25 to 30 minute talk based on the Bible. We strive to make the teachings of the Bible as clear and relevant to our every-day lives as we can. After this, we usually end by setting aside some time for people to receive prayer. What are we all about? Firstly, we are a 'missional-minded' church community. Question: What on earth does that mean? Answer: Well, in addition to being community (i.e. family) we believe that Jesus established a Church that would engage in his mission on the earth. We read in the Bible (Luke 4) of a time when Jesus spelt out his mission; that his purpose on the earth was to bring Good News to the poor, freedom for the captives, healing for the sick and relief for those who are oppressed. We believe that our purpose is to embody that message in the context of contemporary culture; to those who live around us. In essence, we are not only to be communicators but also demonstrators of God’s limitless love and grace to our town. We also take very seriously, Jesus’ instructions to, “Love God and love your neighbours” (Matt 22:37-39) and to, “Go into the world and make disciples” (Matt 28:19) We’re very much a church under construction and feel excited and humbled by the task ahead of us. We also understand that intentionally starting a church from the “ground up” is one of the most challenging and costly yet rewarding and faith building activities we could ever partake in. No perfect people allowed! At VCC, we foster a "come as you are" culture where EVERYONE are WELCOME to come and BELONG; that's everyone regardless of their age, gender, nationality, level of education, employment status, social or political standing, race, religion or sexual leaning. We also recognise that God's loving mercy and grace change people more powerfully than any 'human' or 'religious' do's and don'ts. We warmly invite you to come along and check us out. Stick around and you’ll definitely find a place where you can connect with God and others who are learning to follow him in real and meaningful ways. Our desire is that, wherever you consider yourself to be on your own spiritual journey, VCC would be a safe, accepting place. You can rest assured, you’ll always be very welcome! |
